Manchester United might well need to rely on some help from their former manager, Jose Mourinho, in order to complete a potential transfer option that has emerged.

United are already being linked with a host of possible new signings when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season. The Reds signed Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven in January to strengthen their squad, but are already being tipped for more business in the summer.

Ruben Amorim's team are currently 14th spot in the Premier League table and have the Europa League as their last chance to win a major trophy this term. Qualifying for Europe next season is likely to significantly affect the budget that United have to work with in the transfer market - but that is not stopping rumours claiming some players have already been identified as potential targets.

According to Caught Offside, United are showing an interest in signing Fenerbahce defender Yusuf Akcicek. The report states that the Reds have sent scouts to watch the centre-back in action in recent months and have been impressed by what they have seen.

However, United will apparently face competition from a host of clubs including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton, among several more across Europe including Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Napoli, Atletico Madrid and Ajax.

Mourinho has given Akcicek 14 appearances for Fenerbahce this season as the club's manager, including six in the Europa League. The 19-year-old has played the full 90 minutes in four of the Turkish club's last five matches, in that tournament, but was substituted at half-time in their 3-1 defeat to Rangers on Thursday night.

The report goes on to pinpoint that Fenerbahce value Akcicek at around €20million (£16.8million) going into the summer transfer window. Akcicek has two goals to his name from centre-back this term, including one in the 2-2 draw with Anderlecht in the Europa League play-off to secure a place in the last-16.
