Hyped-up Rangers fans have seized on images of the man they believe will be tasked with masterminding a rebuild on and off the pitch.
Former Bolton star Gretar Steinsson was reportedly in Istanbul to take in a stunning 3-1 Europa League triumph over Fenerbahce. The former Iceland full-back joined Leeds United in 2023 and received a major promotion as he was headhunted to join the 49ers Enterprises to lead their global football structure in November last year.
And that chimes with the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh on the brink of landing the keys to Ibrox with an agreement in place and due diligence underway. Steinsson spent time with the Iceland FA and Tottenham Hotspur before heading to Elland Road as part of the the NFL behemoth's bid to make waves in European football.
And now Rangers are on the hitlist with punters sharing the collective excitement on two counts, firstly with the status which Steinsson holds in the game coupled with the latest sign that a deal is imminent after Record Sport exclusively told the world of the 49ers' intentions.
Interim boss Barry Ferguson enhanced his own stock as Steinsson and the 49ers run the rule over what comes next. But the Ibrox side – living in the here and now – are refusing to take Mourinho and Fenerbahce lightly ahead of a mammoth return in Glasgow on Thursday night.

Ferguson said: “We all know that we've struggled this season at times at Ibrox. I gave them a pat on the back. They'll go and enjoy the night because I always say enjoy the victories. But there's no way that the tie is over.
"I’d be an absolute idiot if I thought that because as I said I've got respect. I respect Fenerbahce and we need to go rest and recover and make sure we focus on Fenerbahce next Thursday. I’m telling you one thing, it's going to be a real difficult time for us.”
