Liverpool have joined Real Madrid in the race to sign 16-year-old Georgia sensation Saba Kharebashvili, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that any deal would be one for the future and he would likely move into the club’s academy side rather than the first team.
Kharebashvili, a defender who currently plays for Georgian outfit FC Dinamo Tbilisi, is very highly-rated throughout Europe and is believed to have “huge” potential.
He is capable of playing across the back line, having predominantly played as a left-back so far this season while also filling in at centre-back and right-back.
Despite his tender age, the 16-year-old has represented Georgia’s Under-19s side on three occasions and has made 29 senior appearances for his club.
Liverpool have become the latest side to display an interest in signing the defender, joining both Real Madrid and Barcelona in their pursuit.

Arne Slot eyes Milos Kerkez signing from Bournemouth
As part of Liverpool’s ambitious plans for the future, they are targeting younger players to come into their first-team for the foreseeable future.
Bournemouth’s 21-year-old left-back Milos Kerkez has emerged as a key target amid concerns about the future of the ageing Andy Robertson in Slot’s starting XI.
Football Insider revealed on 7 March that Liverpool are progressing towards signing Kerkez, and Dominik Szoboszlai is playing a key role in convincing his international teammate to join.
Bournemouth are willing to accept offers upwards of £40million, which would represent a significant profit on the £15.5million spent to sign him just two years ago.
