Report: Man Utd 'choose' replacement for Andre Onana as Amorim loses patience

Manchester United's patience with Andre Onana has run out, and they have chosen Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia as his replacement, as per Fichajes.net.

Onana's constant mistakes have been a massive problem since he joined the Red Devils, making three errors leading to goals this term. The 28-year-old Cameroonian shot-stopper looks increasingly likely to be relieved of the number one spot in Ruben Amorim's side next season.

Garcia has emerged as Amorim's top choice to replace Onana amid impressive displays in La Liga where he has been a reliable presence between the sticks at RCDE Stadium. The 23-year-old is touted as Spain's next top goalkeeping talent and United pulled off a similar La Roja acquisition 14 years ago when a young David de Gea arrived from Atletico Madrid and became one of their all-time greats.

United Want Garcia To Replace Onana

The Spaniard is on the Red Devils' radar

Garcia would find it 'difficult to reject' one of England's most important clubs, potentially making sealing a deal for the Spaniard more feasible. The Red Devils' poor campaign will likely impact their summer transfer window when a major rebuild is expected to help Amorim implement his playing philosophy further.

The two-cap Spain U21 international's ability to thrive under pressure is a major facet of his game, something Onana has lacked at Old Trafford. He is also reliable on the ball, which makes him an attractive option, but they will have to fork out his £24.75 million release clause and aren't alone in their interest.

Arsenal were keen on signing Garcia as Aaron Ramsdale's replacement last summer but settled on Neto arriving on loan from Bournemouth. The Mirror reports that the Gunners are considering re-igniting their interest, while Barcelona and Bayer Leverkusen are also keeping tabs.

Garcia was man-of-the-match in Espanyol's 1-0 win over Real Madrid in February, making seven saves and performances like this are grabbing the attention of Europe's elite.

United are in a desperate situation to find a solution to the problematic start of Amorim's reign, and Onana's poor form, which is viewed as 'a nightmare', hasn't helped. If they swoop for Garcia, they'd be signing a previously lauded 'outstanding' Olympic Gold Medalist who didn't let talk over his future distract him, saying he had to be 'very calm', traits that would be vital at Old Trafford.
