Fans Think They Know Next Raiders QB Amid New Trade Rumors

The Las Vegas Raiders have already struck out on a trade for Matthew Stafford but might not be done yet. The team could still try to draft a quarterback but it seems like they are intent on adding a veteran who can start.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported on Friday that the Raiders are "exploring veteran quarterback options" but not just in free agency. She revealed that they are also looking at trade options for a veteran starter.

There aren't many obvious starting quarterback who could be traded but fans are already starting to connect the dots and believe the quarterback the Raiders could be targeting recently played for Pete Carroll on the Seattle Seahawks.

"Geno Smith makes the most sense for the Raiders if they're going for an establish starter. Sam Darnold obviously stands out too in free agency," one fan wrote on X.

"So basically Geno Smith is a Raider lol got it," another fan wrote in response to Russini's report.

Not everybody is on board with the idea of trading for Smith.

"Please No Geno Smith," a Raiders fan wrote.

However, another fan defended Smith.

"Comments look wild lmao. Geno the last 2 seasons smokes every Raiders QB in every year til you hit 2016. In an offseason where fans are clamoring for Carr and RWilson lmao," the fan wrote.

Another fan noted that the Raiders could sign Smith and it wouldn't stop them from drafting a top prospect.

"I'm just thinking out loud but trading for Geno Smith and drafting Sanders. Makes a lot of sense. They are similar QB's/similar traits. My comp for Sanders would be Alex Smith or Geno Smith," a fan pointed out.

Vinny Bonisgnore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal seemed to confirm many fans' suspicions.

"If the Raiders do go down the trade route for a veteran QB for 2025, Geno Smith makes a lot of sense. Keep an eye on that one," Bonsignore wrote on X.
