Arsenal midfield target set to sign new long-term deal

Arsenal have been handed a big blow with midfielder Joshua Kimmich set to pen a new long-term deal at Bayern Munich, according to BILD.

The Gunners recently contacted the player's representatives, and it was reported that the 30-year-old could consider a Premier League move.

However, there has been a surprise U-turn over the last 48 hours and Kimmich has now committed his future to the Bavarian giants.

The midfielder's previous deal was due to expire in June this year. He is now expected to extend his stay until the summer of 2029 with a pay rise.

The news is a setback for the Gunners, who are planning to recruit a marquee defensive midfielder to compensate for multiple exits.

Thomas Partey and Jorginho are expected to leave at the expiry of their deals on June 30. The club are eyeing a marquee replacement.

Arsenal are also in talks with the entourage of Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi. He could emerge as the main target after Kimmich blow.
