Premier League champions Manchester City will hope to boost their top four chances when they face Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
The Citizens have endured an underwhelming campaign so far and are set to miss out on a fifth consecutive top flight title, however a recent improvement in form has seen Pep Guardiola’s side put themselves in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League next term.
At present City sit fourth in the table, however they will leapfrog Forest if they get the better of their opponents at The City Ground.
This summer could be one of huge chance at The Etihad, with Guardiola likely to want to overhaul his squad having seen them fall behind the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.
City bolstered Guardiola’s squad with four arrivals in January, including Omar Marmoush and Vitor Reis, but it appears that those in charge of the club are now considering signing a long-term replacement for one of their key players.
According to TBR Football, there are significant doubts about the future of Ederson and City could therefore look to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.
Ederson has less than 18 months remaining on his current contract
This summer the Brazilian will enter into the final 12 months of his current contract with City, although it still remains a possibility that he could sign a new deal at The Etihad.
Ederson, 31, joined City from Portuguese side Benfica in 2017 and has since enjoyed huge success at The Etihad, making more than 350 appearances for the club.
He has lifted no fewer than 18 trophies during his time in England, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League.
It is claimed that City have been working to identify potential goalkeeping targets in case Ederson – who was open to the idea of a move to Saudi Arabia last year – does depart the club this summer.
Espanyol star Joan Garcia, Lille’s Lucas Chevalier, and Parma’s Zion Suzuki are all mentioned as possible targets for City.
