Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are all set to hold talks to sign Inter Milan skipper Lautaro Martinez next summer.
Arsenal’s pursuit of a new number nine continues, and according to a report from Football Insider, the Gunners have turned their attention towards Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez. They are looking to open preliminary talks to bring the Argentine World Cup winner to North London.
Martinez came up the ranks and made a name for himself while playing for Racing Club before securing a move to the Italian giants in the summer of 2018. He has gone from strength to strength over the years and has established himself as their go-to man in the final third.
He has won two league titles with Inter and has been their skipper for some time now. The 27-year-old is enjoying another successful season at the club, as he has 17 goals and six assists in his 37 outings.
Martinez signed a contract extension last summer, and while the new deal runs until the summer of 2029, there are clubs that could try to prise him away ahead of next season.
Martinez could be heading to North London
Arsenal are among the clubs that are interested in signing the 2022 World Cup winner. The Gunners are not satisfied with the output of Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, who have been their number nine in recent years.
Mikel Arteta wants to bring in a world-class striker who can help them close the gap at the top. They are looking for a proven goal scorer who can help them end their weight for the league title. Martinez is a top-level striker who is heading into the prime of his career, and Arsenal would certainly love to have him on their squad.
Andrea Berta, who is expected to be their new sporting director, is a huge admirer of the Argentine international. While he failed with an attempt to sign him during his time at Atletico Madrid, he is determined to bring him to North London ahead of next season.
The Gunners are expected to open preliminary talks as they look to lay the groundwork for a big-money move in the summer. While Arsenal are keen on his signature, Inter Milan won’t let their skipper leave unless there is a massive offer on the table.
