Aston Villa will have to be mindful of a potential nightmare scenario emerging - involving Morgan Rogers - that could play out in the near future.

Rogers has been a star player for Villa this season, scoring 12 goals in all competitions. The 22-year-old has seven goals in the Premier League this term - including the consolation strike in the 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in their previous top-flight fixture.

Unai Emery's men will go on the road to take on Brentford on Saturday evening in their return to Premier League duties. Rogers could play a key role in the match just days after playing the full 90 minutes against Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

No Villa player has more yellow cards in the Premier League this season than Rogers, who has eight to his name. Two more would result in a two-match ban being handed to the ex-Middlesbrough star.

Villa's next two top-flight matches see them face Brentford and Brighton. If Rogers was to get cautioned in both games - then he would be suspended for their subsequent fixtures against Nottingham Forest and Southampton.

Premier League rules referring to 10 yellow cards equalling a two-match ban are applicable during a club's first 32 matches. As a result, if Rogers avoids getting two bookings across Villa's next four league fixtures, then he would also dodge a two-game suspension.

Rogers has already served a one-game ban for Villa this season, when he missed their 2-1 win over Midlands rivals Leicester City at the start of January after picking up five yellow cards across the first 19 games. Given the 22-year-old's importance to the team and with the club aiming to climb the table and challenge for a top-five spot, Emery and Villa will be hoping Rogers can avoid getting booked across the next few matches.
