The Washington Commanders released two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jonathan Allen on Friday after unsuccessfully attempting to trade him.

Allen was entering the final season of a four-year, $72 million contract, although there was no more guaranteed money remaining on the deal. The move saves Washington $16.35 million toward the salary cap.

Allen, 30, was limited to eight games in 2024 because of a torn left pectoral muscle.

He totaled 401 career tackles, 42 sacks and 118 quarterback hits in 109 career games (108 starts) after being selected by Washington with the 17th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
