Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United chiefs are “very happy” with one player despite previous rumours about a departure.
Manchester United are having an extremely difficult season so far, with Ruben Amorim struggling to turn things around.
There have only been a few bright sparks since the Portuguese boss took charge. Amad and Lisandro Martínez were both performing well until each suffering long-term injuries.
Since then, it has been Joshua Zirkzee who has provided some positivity with his performances after an very tough start to life at Old Trafford.
After his summer move, the Dutch forward could not get consistent game-time and looked unready for the physical nature of the Premier League.
He was booed off the pitch when substituted in the first-half against Newcastle United in late December and rumours sparked about a potential January or summer exit for the player.
However, Zirkzee has managed to turn things around since then and while things are far from perfect with the 23-year-old, he is showing many more positive signs now playing consistently in the team.
Romano says United are very happy with Zirkzee
Despite previous rumours about a potential exit, with Serie A clubs interested in the player, Fabrizio Romano has explained that those at Old Trafford are now “very happy” with Zirkzee.
“At the moment he’s doing good and Man United are very happy with him,” Romano wrote in his GiveMeSport column.
“Also Zirkzee decided to stay in January, it wasn’t only the club. Let’s see from now to the summer, still long way to go so I’d keep it open… but good feelings now.”
Zirkzee has now started five games in a row for United, his longest spell in the starting XI since joining the club in the summer.
Amorim pleased with Zirkzee development
Zirkzee’s improved form is not simply due to extra game-time, but he has also been working hard behind the scenes.
The Times have reported that the 23-year-old regularly stays behind at Carrington for extra shooting practice with Amorim’s assistant coach Carlos Fernandes.
It was also noted that he is often the last first-team player to leave the training ground.

Amorim has been impressed with some of the improvements Zirkzee has been making and was happy to see him on the scoresheet last time out against Real Sociedad.

“He deserved his goal because he is working really well, he’s improving a lot of things in his game and he was important for us,” the United boss said.
