Former Manchester City manager and player Stuart Pearce suffered a medical emergency while on an airplane and caused it to be diverted.
Pearce, 62, was heading back to the UK from Las Vegas on Monday after flying to the United States to watch Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors in the Super League.
But while on his way home, Pearce, who made 43 appearances for City as a player and managed 97 matches during his stint in the dugout, as well, suffered chest pains.
After he was attended to on the flight, the crew decided to divert the place to St. John's International Airport - the closest available airport - in Canada for Pearce to get medical attention.
Medics then rushed on board and took the ex-England international to hospital - where he is now recovering. Pearce and his partner had been in the economy section of the plane which left the US at 8.45pm last Sunday.
Pearce, whose last coaching role was with David Moyes at West Ham, has been working in the media over the last couple of years. He works as a regular pundit on talkSPORT and Amazon Prime, covering matches in the Champions League and Premier League.
His last match before the trip to Vegas came at Goodison Park when Everton drew 2-2 against Manchester United on Saturday, February 22.
Pearce won 78 caps for England during his playing days. His most recognisable moment in a Three Lions shirt came during the 1990 World Cup, where he helped them reach the semi-final in Italy. However, Pearce and England's tournament came to a crushing end when he missed from the spot in a penalty shootout defeat to West Germany.
Six years later, at Euro '96, Pearce went a long way to redemption by scoring from 12 yards to help England to beat Spain on penalties and reach the semi-final. He totted-up over 700 senior games overall as a professional.
