Eagles free agent hasn’t gotten any offseason interest from Philadelphia: ‘Not part of the plan’

Defensive tackle Milton Williams was one of the Eagles' best defensive players this past season and helped them win a Super Bowl, but it doesn’t appear like the free agent will be a part of their future.

Williams has not been in touch with the Eagles this offseason and there is little chance he will return to Philadelphia, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The person requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

“I don’t think so, he’s not part of the plan with the Georgia boys,” the person said.

In 2025, the Eagles could replace Williams with third-year defensive tackle Moro Ojomo and a draft pick. The Eagles are likely comfortable moving on from Williams because they would rather give contract extensions to defensive tackles Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis, both of whom were drafted out of Georgia.

The Eagles offered Williams a one-year, $8 million contract before the 2024 season, according to the person. Now, Williams is likely to shatter that offer in free agency.

Williams could make upwards of $20 million per year, with him being one of the only premier defensive tackles to hit the open market.

At least 10 teams are interested in Williams, according to the person, including the Washington Commanders, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders and Miami Dolphins.

The Eagles drafted Williams in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft. Over the last four years, he has developed into a productive interior pass rusher, amassing 11.5 career sacks.

Williams strip-sacked Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the team’s Super Bowl victory last month at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Philadelphia re-signed Zack Baun to a three-year extension and released cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry this past week. When the NFL free agency legal tampering period opens on Monday, the Eagles could lose other key free agents, including edge rusher Josh Sweat and offensive guard Mekhi Becton.
