It's expected that the New York Jets will move on from starting tight end Tyler Conklin once the offseason period truly gets kickstarted next week.
If the team is unable to bring back Conklin, though, the Jets have plenty of tight end options available in both the 2025 Draft and free agency. New York could go either way to improve their roster on the offensive side of the ball.
In the free agency pool, there's one veteran who was just released who has plenty of experience to help the offense moving forward.
Unlike many free agents, former Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Evan Engram clearly has plenty of experience in a big market like New York. Engram spent six seasons with the New York Giants and even made two Pro Bowls during his eight-year career.
Now, the Jaguars have released Engram after an injury riddled season and can negotiate with other teams on the open market.
Engram was the second-biggest cap hit for Jacksonville for the 2025 season at $19.49 million, per Over the Cap. By releasing him, the Jags are absorbing $13.5 million in dead cap money and saving just under $6 million.
Gang Green has struggled to find competent tight end play to help them move the offense moving forward. Engram could be a cost-effective player that changes the offense for the better.
Should they even try and go that route, that is.
