CLEVELAND, Ohio — In a week where Browns owner Jimmy Haslam declined Myles Garrett’s request to talk to him about his trade demand and the two sides continue their standoff, some premier edge rushers have hit the market, and one has hit the jackpot.
With Garrett still willing to do [“whatever it takes”](https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2025/02/myles-garrett-im-willing-to-do-whatever-it-takes-to-make-the-browns-trade-him-he-says-on-super-bowl-pre-game.html) to get the Browns to trade him, and the Browns not budging, it appears that Garrett will still be a Brown when the league year begins on Wednesday.
With a handful of premier edge rushers hitting the market this week and next, there might not be a vast number of teams willing to give up at least two first-round picks and more than $35 million year for Garrett.
Here’s a look at the pass-rusher week that was:
**1\. Bengals give Trey Hendrickson permission to seek a trade**
----------------------------------------------------------------
---
After failing to agree to terms with their star edge rusher on an extension, the Bengals gave him the green light to seek a trade.
According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Bengals have gotten plenty of calls on Hendrickson, who led the NFL with 17.5 sacks in 2024 and finished second with that amount in 2023.
With plenty of comps between Hendrickson and Garrett, the former’s market will inform the latter’s.
A third-round pick of the Saints in 2017, Hendrickson turned 30 in December, while Garrett turned 29. Hendrickson earned his first All-Pro honors in 2024, and has notched double-digit sacks in three of his last four seasons.
Some of the same teams that would’ve been interested in Garrett will undoubtedly toss their hat in the ring for Hendrickson. He also stands to average the same or more than Maxx Crosby got this week from the Raiders — $35.5 million a year.
The draft pick compensation is something to keep an eye on. Browns GM Andrew Berry has said he won’t trade Garrett, not even for two first round picks.
**2\. The Chargers release Joey Bosa**
--------------------------------------
---
The Chargers released premier edge rusher Joey Bosa, the No. 3 overall pick in 2016 who played all nine seasons with then. Bosa has been injured a lot, but played in 14 games in 2024, notching five sacks and 13 quarterback hits. The Chargers freed up $25.3 million in cap space with the move, and Bosa, 29, will soon have a new deal.
**3\. The Raiders extend Maxx Crosby**
--------------------------------------
The Raiders, a new coach in Pete Carroll and new GM in John Spytek, made Maxx Crosby the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL at $35.5 million. The Raiders’ fourth round pick in 2019, Crosby, a four-time Pro Bowler, has totaled 59.5 sacks since entering the league, tied for fifth most in the NFL. In 2024, he notched 7.5 sacks and 45 tackles in 12 games before undergoing season-ending ankle surgery.
Crosby’s deal, which surpasses that of the former highest-paid edge rusher in San Francisco’s Nick Bosa ($34 million) will set the bar for others due extensions such as Detroit’s Aidan Hutchinson, Pittsburgh’s T.J. Watt and Dallas’ Micah Parsons. The average could climb to $40 million a year by the time they’re all done.
**4\. The Commanders release Jonathan Allen**
---------------------------------------------
After failing to find a trade partner, the Commanders on Friday released former first-round edge rusher Allen, their No. 17 overall pick in 2017. It didn’t take for him to draw interest on the open market. The 49ers are already believed to be interested.
In 108 starts over eight seasons, Allen, 30, notched 42 sacks. Due a base salary of $15.5 million in 2024, he stands to get paid despite missing nine games with a torn pec in last season.
**6\. The Titans are releasing OLB Harold Landry**
--------------------------------------------------
After hosting Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter on Thursday, the Titans — who own the No. 1 overall pick — revealed they’re releasing Landry, who led the team with nine sacks in 2024, his third straight season with at least nine sacks. It remains to be seen if there’s a correlation with Carter’s visit and Landry’s impending release. Landry was granted permission at the NFL Combine to seek a trade, but the Titans opted to part ways when they couldn’t strike a deal. But with four excellent pass rushers already shaking free, the veteran edge rusher market might not be too robust after the next few weeks.
