Mohamed Salah has highlighted the quality of Arne Slot, stating that the Dutchman is different from former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool had a good time under Klopp. The club enjoyed its most dominant and successful period in this century under the German, who took the club from a sleeping European giant to title winners.
Under Klopp, Liverpool reached four European finals in four seasons, winning one UEFA Champions League trophy in that period. He also won every domestic trophy available, and won the club’s first Club World Cup.
After his departure last season, it was thought Liverpool would struggle in Arne Slot’s first season. History has shown that clubs tend to struggle after managers with big personalities leave. For example, Manchester United and Arsenal struggled when Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger left.
However, Slot has bucked these trends. The former Feyenoord man has been a big hit since his move to Liverpool, building well on the foundation left by Klopp.
He has the Reds dominating the Premier League and playing some of the best football in Europe.
Liverpool are currently 13 points ahead of their closest challenger, Arsenal, in the Premier League title race. As things stand, they are the favourites to win the title-an event that would result in Klopp returning to Liverpool.
The former Reds boss revealed that he would join a title parade should Liverpool win the title.
“Yes, the plan is to come, but not on the bus,” Klopp revealed.
“I will be there where the people I saw were when we were on the bus. That’s the idea, to be honest, but we’ll see. I didn’t want to go earlier before the last game because I didn’t want to jinx it. So I go there when it’s decided.”
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s game against Southampton on Saturday, Mohamed Salah, who has taken his game to a new level under Slot, acknowledged the quality of his current coach, revealing the reason has not changed Liverpool’s playing style much.
“He’s quite an interesting character and different than Jurgen,” Salah said in the programme notes for the Southampton game.
“I think you can see through the results that he’s very clever.”
“He has his way of playing. He didn’t change much because he knew that with having played with Jurgen for many years, that would have been difficult”
