Former Dallas Cowboys WR Suddenly Unretires For 2025

A former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver is making a comeback after an interesting summer in 2024. The Cowboys made some big cuts last offseason as the team had to make room for the extensions of quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

Dallas also could have taken care of star pass rusher Micah Parsons’ contract. Instead, Jerry Jones kicked that can down the road for this offseason.

One of the Cowboys’ cap casualties in 2024 was wide receiver Michael Gallup. Following his release from Dallas, Gallup signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in April. Gallup was with the Raiders briefly before announcing his retirement from the league on July 23.

Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Gallup is choosing to unretire in 2025.

“FormerCowboys WR Michael Gallup, who abruptly retired last offseason, intends to make a comeback, per his agent Kevin Robinson,” Rapoport posted on X. “TheRaiders released him from the reserve/retired list today for that reason. He’s still just 29.”

A standout at Colorado State, Gallup was selected by the Cowboys with the No. 81 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Gallup has played in 86 games and started in 67. The six-foot-one, 198-pound pass catcher has caught 266 passes for 3,744 yards, and 21 touchdowns in his six-year NFL career.

He was expected to compete for the WR. 3 job in Las Vegas last season. He should have some interest in the second or third wave of free agency with the chance to make a 53-man roster in training camp.
