The Sacramento Kings have made many organizational changes this season and that may continue in the offseason.
Sacramento had a terrible start to the season, which resulted in them firing head coach Mike Brown and replacing him with Doug Christie.
Since Christie took over, the Kings have been a much better team, but it was not enough for them to convince their superstar point guard De'Aaron Fox to commit to the franchise long-term.
Of course, the Kings decided to trade Fox to the San Antonio Spurs ahead of the trade deadline, ending his eight-year run in Sacramento after he was selected fifth overall by the Kings in the 2017 NBA Draft.
With Fox now gone, the Kings' problems have yet to be solved as they will have a ton of decisions to make in the offseason, and one of them may be about the future of Domantas Sabonis with the team.
On Friday, The Athletics' Sam Amick and Anthony Slater reported that Sabonis could also question the Kings' long-term plan like Fox did before he was traded to San Antonio.
"League sources said Sabonis, who has three more seasons and a combined $140.3 million left on his current deal, is expected to seek clarity about the organization's plan in the offseason," Amick and Slater wrote. "Just as Fox wanted to know whose voice mattered most on key decisions, and who the team's owner might be trusting the most as counsel, Sabonis is known to have similar questions."
This is major news for the future of the Kings, especially with Sabonis being the star of their roster with Fox now gone.
Of course, the Kings will have to decide on whether to retain Doug Christie as their head coach after he replaced Brown in December, but they will also have to answer some questions for Sabonis regarding the future of the team.
If Sabonis does not like their long-term plan, the Kings may be forced to trade him away like they did Fox, which could make them begin a rebuild.
