Mavericks Suffer Another Blow After Kyrie Irving Season-Ending Injury

The Dallas Mavericks have been hit harder than any other team in the NBA by the injury bug this year, and just when it seems like they've caught a break, they get dealt another injury. After Kyrie Irving suffered a season-ending injury on Monday, the Mavericks lost another player, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, for the rest of the year too.

For a point in time on Friday, it seemed like Dallas' day may have been headlined by a positive injury update. That's because trade deadline acquisition Caleb Martin is set to make his debut for the team in their upcoming game with the Memphis Grizzlies after missing time with a hip injury.

"Caleb Martin, I'm told, is on course to return from his hip injury and make his Mavericks debut tonight against Memphis … just over a month after Dallas acquired Martin from Philadelphia in trade headlined by Quentin Grimes," Marc Stein reported in a post on X.

For every good injury update the Mavericks get, though, they seem to get another bad one. That proved true again, as Prosper, the team's first-round pick in the 2023 NBA draft, has been ruled out for the rest of the season too after suffering a serious injury to his right wrist.

"Another injury blow to Dallas: Mavericks forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper has a serious right wrist injury and is expected to require season-ending surgery, sources tell ESPN," Shams Charania of ESPN reported in a post on X.

In 52 games this season, Prosper averaged 3.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game for the Mavericks. With so many other players in their frontcourt, such as Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford, and Dereck Lively II, injured as well, Prosper could have received a bigger role down the stretch of the season.

Instead, the Mavericks find themselves down another body in their frontcourt rotation. Tip-off for their clash with the Grizzlies is set for 7:30 p.m. EST.
