The Seattle Seahawks will have a new starting quarterback in 2025.
With contract negotiations evidently stalling out, Geno Smith is reuniting with Pete Carroll and will be going to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a third-round pick.

Smith had a year remaining on his contract and a roster bonus due of $16 million. The Seahawks could’ve extended him and lowered the 2025 cap hit but there was always the possibility that at his age (34) and his price tag that Seattle would look to get younger at quarterback and perhaps hit the reset button on offense.
There was immediate speculation when Carroll was hired by the Raiders that, should Smith not be retained by the Seahawks, he’d go to Las Vegas. Now it’s come to fruition. Consider this the second time in four offseasons that the Seahawks have traded their starting quarterback to an AFC West team.
This move, even more so than the potential trade of star receiver DK Metcalf and the release of Tyler Lockett, all but confirmed that the Seahawks are significantly rebuilding their offense. To what extent remains to be seen.
