An ex-Arsenal star is worth a staggering 208 times more than Erling Haaland.

The Manchester City goal machine, 24, signed a staggering nine-and-a-half year contract with the Premier League champions in January, said to be worth a whopping £500,000 per week, which could earn him £247m if he sees out the deal until he is 34.

However, that's small fry compared to Mathieu Flamini, who turned 41 yesterday, March 7. The former France midfielder, who had two spells with Arsenal either side of a stint with Italian giants AC Milan, is worth a jaw-dropping £10billion thanks to his canny investments after hanging up his boots.

He retired in 2019 after co-founding a biochemical company, GF Biochemicals, which broke ground in the field by becoming the first firm to be able to mass-produce levulinic acid - an oil substitute with numerous uses, which can be used in plastics, solvents, fuels and the pharmaceutical industry.

As a result, Flamini and his business partner Pasquale Granata have earned a phenomenal amount of money. American business magazine Forbes estimate their stakes in the company give them a net worth of £10.2billion each. Not too shabby!

With more than 400 workers on their books and a headquarters in Italy, the genius duo have also shared their progression with other forward-thinking minds who are helping the environment.

Speaking of their project, Flamini said: "What we’re trying to achieve here is to tackle the chemical pollution. This investment is a first step of a major journey which will also move in the direction of developing key partnerships and agreements with large producers of household and industrial goods."

Meanwhile, Norwegian striker Haaland is said to be worth around £48million - though his fortune is set to increase dramatically as a result of his new contract.

Haaland's new deal will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2034. It's understood to include a release clause said to be in excess of £250m, which kicks in in 2029.

He said: "I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club. Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.

"I also want to thank Pep, his coaching staff, my team-mates and everyone at the club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years. They have made this such a special place to be and now I am City no matter what.
