The recurring narrative around Liverpool this season has been that they have capitalized on relatively few injuries within their squad, while optimally using their competitors’ struggles.

Slot’s response to ‘lucky’ Liverpool claims

While some have used accusations of the quality of the league being weak this season, when assessing the Merseyside club’s standing in the league table, Slot understands that not everything can be attributed to luck.

When asked in his press conference whether he believed things had gone in Liverpool’s favour this season, considering factors like injuries to other teams, Slot gave an insightful response.

Thisisanfield reports Slot saying, “If you think injuries are only luck or bad luck, then we’ve been lucky. But we’ve tried to believe in the fact that we try to prevent them from a certain way of working.”

The manager explained that while luck could play a role, he believes that Liverpool’s success and minimal level of injuries is down to the way they approach player fitness and injury prevention.

He further explained, “So that we don’t have many injuries, I don’t see that as luck. I see this as, first of all, top professionals, our players do everything to stay fit. Second of all, great facilities and great staff.”

Slot acknowledged the unlikelihood of going through the season participating in several competitions without any injuries.

He also mentioned that his team have faced injury troubles too with Diogo Jota, Alisson, Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez and others out of action for good periods this season.
