SUPERIOR, Wis. (Northern News Now) - Next month, a quarter of a million people will make their way to Green Bay to experience the NFL Draft at Lambeau Field.
A restaurant owner in Superior will get to be a part of it in a way no others have before.
“I did get a football that we could get signed and get autographs and we’ll display in Eddie’s,” said co-owner of Eddie’s Supper Club Ben Anderson. “I think it would be kind of a fun piece of Green Bay and the draft to bring back to Superior.”
Anderson and his wife bought Eddie’s two and a half years ago but the restaurant was opened in the late 1880s.
The established eatery will soon hit the road to take part in the NFL’s first Taste of the Draft.
It is an initiative between the Green Bay Packers, NFL and nonprofit GENYOUth to raise money to end student hunger in Wisconsin.
“We had gotten an email they were looking for 20 supper clubs to feature a dish because Wisconsin being a small market, Wisconsin being known for supper clubs,” said Anderson.
Each supper club there will have a sample of their featured menu item prepared for ticketed guests to try.
Tickets are nearly $1000 per guest and the proceeds will be given to GENYOUth.
Anderson said supper clubs are a big tradition in the state.
“It’s like grandma and grandpa’s kitchen kind of thing,” said Anderson. “Those kind of meals, very filling.”
Anderson said when asked about which dish he would like to showcase at the event, only one came to mind: Eddie’s world famous ribs.
He shared the recipe with the caterers for the even who will be preparing the 900 samples for the guests.
“In our meeting Monday, she did ask me if they would need knives and I said, ‘No, they’ll be fine. They’ll fall off the bone,‘” said Anderson.
Anderson said they are not just representing Eddie’s at Green Bay.
“We’ll do a good job, I feel like, showing how we are up here in the Great Lakes,” said Anderson.
Taste of the Draft is the Wednesday night before the draft begins.
