West Ham take on European hopefuls Newcastle United in their next match

After victories over title hopefuls Arsenal and relegation strugglers Leicester City, West Ham find themselves on a two-match winning streak in the league for the first time this season and Graham Potter will now be targeting three three victories for the first time since December 2023, when the Hammers play host to a European-chasing Newcastle United team with one eye on the Carabao Cup final.

West Ham beat Newcastle 2-0 at St James’ Park earlier in the season and are now looking to do the double over the Magpies for the first time since the 2018/19 season when they were under the guidance of Manuel Pellegreni.

The Hammers have the opportunity to climb above the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur with a victory in the capital on Monday night depending on the results of opponents elsewhere as the Red Devils host Arsenal and Spurs host Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Newcastle, who will hope to bounce back from a league defeat to Liverpool and an FA Cup exit against Brighton, desperately need the points to sustain their push for Champions League football while also building confidence ahead of their trip to Wembley as they look to end their 70-year-wait for a domestic honour.

Newcastle have their fair share of injury concerns creeping in at the worst possible time while West Ham boss Potter also has a number of concerns to deal with. Ahead of kick-off, London World takes a look at the fitness news from both teams and the seven players that are set to miss out.

West Ham injury news

Vladimir Coufal - doubt: Czech international Vladimir Coufal is pushing to make a return from a thigh problem. “Vladi certainly has a chance for Newcastle”, explained Graham Potter. Expected return date: 10/03/25

Lucas Paqueta - doubt: Brazil international Lucas Paqueta, who played alongside opponent Bruno Guimaraes at Lyon, is pushing for a return from an ankle injury and faces a late fitness test ahead of kick-off this Monday.

The £51m signing faces a three-week hearing this month for an alleged breach of betting related rules but remains available for selection until a verdict is reached. Expected return date: 10/03/25

Crysencio Summerville - out: Crysencio Summerville is expected to miss at least another month of competitive action with a thigh injury. Expected return date: 01/04/25

Niclas Fullkrug - out: German international Niclas Fullkrug misses the rest of the season with a thigh injury. Expected return date: unknown

Michail Antonio - out: Michail Antonio is out for the remainder of the season after being involved in a car accident. “Michail is going to be out for a long time, for sure. It’s good news that he’s at home with his family, and I’m sure he’s going to try and recover as quickly as possible,” explained Graham Potter in January. Expected return date: 01/06/25

Newcastle United injury news

Sven Botman - out: Two seasons ago, Sven Botman formed part of the best backline in the league in the 2022/23 season. He was a huge miss in his second term when he sustained an ACL problem. The Dutch international has been in and around the team since the start of 2025 with five appearances, but recently suffered a setback to his knee which rules him out until the final weeks of the season. Expected return date: 01/05/25

Lewis Hall - out: One of Newcastle’s star performers this season. England international Lewis Hall is out for the remainder of the campaign with a foot injury. Expected return date: unknown

Kieran Trippier - doubt: Kieran Trippier is a slight doubt for the upcoming West Ham test with a lower back injury. It remains to be seen whether the experienced right-back will be risked in the capital with the cup final on the horizon. Expected return date: 10/03/25

Jamaal Lascelles - out: Ex-Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles sustained an ACL injury in January 2024. He is still working his way back to fitness and is behind Sven Botman in his rehabilitation process. “Jamaal is continuing to work... He has had setbacks, nothing major, but little moments that have knocked his recovery. He has been on the grass, training individually with the physios. He has not gone beyond that stage yet. We are probably looking towards the end of the season as a return date,” explained Eddie Howe. Expected return date: 03/05/25

Alexander Isak - returns: Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe claims Alexander Isak was only subbed off against Brighton due to general fatigue after returning from a minor knock which kept him out against Liverpool. The Swedish striker, who has scored 22 goals will be crucial if Newcastle are to end the season on a high. Expected return date: 10/03/25

Antony Gordon - suspended: England international Anthony Gordon misses the trip to West Ham and also the Carabao Cup final after picking up a straight red card in the FA Cup against Brighton.
