Arsenal guaranteed to be without five stars vs Man Utd as key man returns

Arsenal head into the weekend's clash against Manchester United buoyed by a massive midweek win over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. However, they know that another three points will be required to maintain any hope of winning the Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta's side trail Liverpool by 13 points, though they do have a game in hand over Arne Slot's team. And while a trip to Old Trafford is not the daunting task it once was, the Gunners will need to be carry over their European form after disappointing returns in their last two league games.

With Arsenal struggling due to attacking injuries, it was perhaps no surprise that they have gone through somewhat of a slump in front of goal of late, with just two goals in their last three fixtures before the thumping PSV win. And they were made to wait for those two goals as well, both coming in the last 10 minutes of a game against relegation-threatened Leicester City.

However, confidence will be high after they dispatched the Eredevisie team with ease, with a creative power and ruthless streak running through the team.

Arteta will have some choices to make in defence, with Ben White now back making appearances from the bench so far after his return from a long injury. And Myles Lewis-Skelly will be available once more after serving a suspension following his red card against West Ham.

However, there will still be five players the manager will definitely be unable to pick for the game against Ruben Amorim's side.

Gabriel Jesus and Takehiro Tomiyasu are out for the season after having to undergo knee surgery, while Kai Havertz will also not return until pre-season after undergoing surgery on his hamstring. That means, when looking at the official Arsenal website, the Gunners have 17 senior players available for selection for the game vs Manchester United. As per Premier League rules, a club is allowed to name a squad of 20 players for a Premier League match.

Ethan Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly, who are classed as Arsenal Academy players on the Gunners official website, will be included in the squad as normal. There could also be another call-up for academy forward Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, who has made a number of appearances on the substitutes' bench recently.

Possible Arsenal squad for Man Utd: Raya, Neto; Timber, White, Gabriel, Kiwior, Calafiori, Zinchenko, Saliba, Lewis-Skelly, Tierney; Rice, Jorginho, Partey, Merino, Odegaard, Nwaneri; Trossard, Sterling, Butler-Oyedeji

Senior players unavailable for Man Utd: Tomiyasu (knee injury), Saka (hamstring injury), Jesus (knee injury), Havertz (hamstring injury), Martinelli (hamstring injury)
