'It's a good thing...'- Ruben Amorim backs Manchester United fan protests ahead of Arsenal clash

Ruben Amorim has broken his silence on the fan protests scheduled to take place ahead of Manchester United vs Arsenal on Sunday.

Manchester United have problems on and off the pitch.

Ruben Amorim’s team are 14th in the Premier League and the only chance they have of winning silverware is in the Europa League.

With Champions League football an uncertainty for a second consecutive season, it’s set to make life harder for Ineos in terms of the club’s financial situation.

United’s losses over the past five years total over £370m, which is problematic because clubs can record a maximum loss of £105m over a three-year reporting period under the profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

However, some costs do not count towards PSR calculations. They include infrastructure costs, youth development and community spending.

United fans are fearful that this will lead to an increase in prices for season ticket holders.

Ruben Amorim supports Manchester United protests

Ruben Amorim has sent a supportive message to United fans who will be protesting ahead of their Premier League fixture with Arsenal on Sunday.

Fan group The 1958 have urged match-goers to wear black for the 3 pm march to Old Trafford from the Tollgate bar. This, according to the group, is to mark how the club is “slowly dying” after 20 years of gross mismanagement caused by the Glazers.

Last Sunday, Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) joined with Fulham Supporters’ Trust (FST) to show support for the Football Supporters’ Association’s Stop Exploiting Loyalty campaign.

The message may be for the Glazer family, but co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe must listen too. The British billionaire has also been subject to criticism since acquiring a minority share at the football club.

United fans are understandably angry about the chance of rises to season ticket prices on top of the £1 billion debt placed on the club since the Glazers’ controversial takeover in 2005.

Amorim was asked about the protests at his pre-match press conference, and said: “For everybody in our club it’s a really tough moment. It’s everything at the same time. The only thing I can do, and our players, is perform well and win.

“People have the right to protest. I think it’s a good thing to do that. It’s party of our club. Everybody has a voice.

“But our job and my job is just to improve the team and give them something in this moment because they deserve it and they are amazing.”

How to attend the next Manchester United fan protest

The 1958 announced details for the upcoming protest earlier this week.

To show more anger against the Glazers, the protest will be against them as well as the club’s ‘deliberate assault on fan culture’.

United fans are invited to take part in the protest which many expected to gather at the Tollgate bar for 3 pm.

The march is expected to begin at 3:15 pm when they make their way down Talbot Road, onto Warwick Road, Sir Matt Busby Way and then onto the forecourt before heading down the Munich tunnel.

It’s a chance to let the Glazers know that the debt is theirs.
