At least 11 people have been killed and 30 injured in a Russian strike in a town near Donetsk.
At least 11 people have been killed and 30 injured in a Russian strike in a town near Donetsk, Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Saturday.
The strike comes a day after Ukrainian officials said that Russia had targeted energy facilities with dozens of missiles and drones in a nighttime attack.
The overnight strikes follows the US' suspension of military aid and intelligence to Ukraine.
Speaking at the Oval Office on Friday, US President Donald Trump dismissed claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin was taking advantage of the pause in military aid and intelligence.
Instead, he said he thinks Putin is "doing what anybody else would do" to get "it stopped and settled".
He continued: "I think he's hitting them harder than than he's been hitting them. And I think probably anybody in that position would be doing that right now."
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Friday, Trump said Ukraine do not "have the cards"
Trump also suggested Ukraine was "more difficult" to deal with than Russia, who held "all the cards".
He reiterated his aim to "settle the war", adding that he had put in a “very strong statement” telling Putin to stop “bombing the hell out of” Ukraine.
Earlier on Friday, Trump also said he was considering sanctions and tariffs on Russia until a final peace settlement was reached with Ukraine.
He encouraged both Ukraine and Russia to "get to the table right now" and negotiate "before it is too late".
It comes as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron spoke on Friday to “compare notes” on their work towards a possible peace in Ukraine, Downing Street said, as the EU moved to free up hundreds of billions of euros for security.
The call between the two leaders, who have been leading efforts to draw together a “coalition of the willing” to help Kyiv, took place after European countries agreed a massive increase in defence spending.
On Thursday, European leaders had backed new defence spending plans aimed at freeing up billions of euros as the bloc grapples with the prospect of Trump reducing security assistance for Europe.
Downing Street said Ukraine's President Zelenskyy had provided a “good basis” for discussions between the US and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia next week after he set out some possible elements for the first stage of a peace deal and his readiness to move quickly.
Zelenskyy reiterated on Friday that Russia must be forced to stop its attacks as a first step to peace.
