The Movement of the 78s expresses support for Öcalan’s call

The Movement of the 78s issued a written statement regarding Mr. Öcalan’s 'Call of the Century,' made on February 27. In the statement, they reflected on the unresolved issues of Turkey’s history and stated: "By the 1970s, alongside the Kurdish reality, unresolved political and legal issues inherited from the founding of the Republic led to the rise of violence-based approaches to solutions.' The unresolved problems of the Republic’s history have been passed down to us. We have been both participants in and witnesses to the struggles of the 1970s and beyond."

The statement further emphasized: "In pursuit of ‘Social Peace and a Democratic Society,’ legal and political foundations must be established. Confronting the realities of the Republic’s past, uncovering historical truths, and ensuring transitional justice are necessary to ease the conscience of society. A responsible approach from all parties will accelerate this process. Once again, we express our full support for the call, which prioritizes ‘Social Peace and a Democratic Society,’ and reaffirm our commitment to fulfilling our responsibilities in this process."
