Kobbie Mainoo has reportedly demanded Manchester United a salary of £150,000-a-week to sign a fresh contract. 19-year-old Mainoo earns about £20,000 a week under his current contract that keeps him at Old Trafford for two more years but his representatives reportedly want increased salary given his stature.
The Stockport-born midfielder joined Manchester United at the age of six. The teenager, who is currently nursing an injury, was one of the Premier League's breakout stars last season. He has made 60 appearances for United's senior team so far since his debut in 2023. Following his debut aged 17, Mainoo played 10 times for England as was listed among the future stars of United alongside Rasus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho.

However, another report had earlier claimed that Manchester United are open to selling Mainoo and Garnacho as they both have been stripped of their "unctouchable" status. Ruben Amorim-managed United hope to build the funds necessary to rope in some of their long-term targets from the sale of the duo, among others. Since Mainoo is an academy product, they don't need to bother about the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and the money raised would be pure profit.
Mainoo is worth between €41.1 million and €68.5 million in the market and Chelsea is believed to be interested in signing him. While United is certain to offer him a new deal, it remains unknown if it will meet his demands. In the case of Mainoo refusing the club's terms, United could consider selling him to boost their financial situation. It could be a boost to the Premier League side's finances after suffering losses worth£113.2 million last season.
