Summer of 2025 is gearing up to be a summer of further upheaval at London Stadium. Without the £140 million spend of 2024, no doubt, but probably just as dramatic. Out of contract players will leave and loan spells will end, along with already pencilled-in departures there are going to be some big gaps to fill.
Carlos Soler, Guido Rodriguez, Evan Ferguson, Michail Antonio, Danny Ings, Aaron Cresswell, Lucas Fabianski and Vladimir Coufal are all out of contract – and Jean Clair Todibo’s loan ends with the option to buy already activated. Even if Antonio, Cresswell and Fabianski are given some form of extension, that still leave big holes in the side to be filled before August ends.
However the midfield is unlikely to need huge amounts spending – the reports from Portsmouth suggest on-loan Freddie Potts is more than ready to step up to West Ham’s first team.

Pompey’s boss John Mousino would love to have Potts back but recognises his quality:”.. my gut instinct is Freddie should go back to West Ham and [be] really challenging over pre-season to get into their first team” he told Portsmouth.co.uk.

Potts can also save West Ham the £17 million fee required to complete Carlos Soler’s permanent move from Paris St Germain and a fortune in wages – Soler’s reported £200k a week was never on the agenda but the 21 year old will certainly come cheaper.
Potts still has the burning ambition to follow Ollie Scarles and Lewis Orford into first team recognition as a Hammer. In the whufc.com video ‘life on loan’ Potts enthused: “I want to be a West Ham player. I want to start in the West Ham first team. That’s always been a dream of mine. However it happens, that’s the mission that I want to try and achieve.” And now with Graham Potter in the driving seat, Freddie Potts can look forward to the summer of ’25 with the pathway into West Ham’s starting eleven for August beckoning brightly.
