LONDON: A British-Pakistani man has been [jailed for eight years](https://dailyausaf.com/en/world/pakistani-man-jailed-for-knife-attack-aimed-at-french-magazine-charlie-hebdo/) who tried to smuggle firearms parts in a car shipped from Pakistan to the United Kingdom (UK).
Yasir Khan, 40, was charged with the bid to smuggle 72 gun components, which were secretly hidden underneath the windscreen, inside the fuel tank and under the bonnet of a 1976 Datsun Sunny.
The vehicle was seized by Border Force during a search on July 7, 2024, at London Gateway Port.
National Crime Agency (NCA) revealed that he was smuggling 36 top slides and 36 barrels for 9mm Glock self-loading pistols. The haul was expertly hidden in the vehicle.
NCA officers began an investigation and Khan, who claimed he was a car dealer, was arrested by officers from the agency’s Armed Operations Unit on 12 July in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.
Today, Khan, of Lea Road, Sparkhill, Birmingham, appeared at the city’s crown court and was sentenced to eight years in prison after he admitted smuggling firearms.
NCA officers discovered voice notes on his phone showing evidence of a contact with a supplier in Pakistan who had access to the manufacture of parts for firearms.
The armourer had invited Khan to view “the factory” during summer 2023, according to the NCA.
Evidence also showed that during 2023, Khan purchased several deactivated firearms, which it is believed he was able to convert into viable lethal firearms once again.
