Dubai: A 19-year-old Egyptian man was fatally struck by a minibus while distributing iftar meals to motorists at sunset in Qalyubia governorate, with police still searching for the driver, who fled the scene.

The incident occurred Thursday in the village of Tersa, in the city of Toukh, when Mahmoud Atef Badr was handing out dates, juice, and water to passing drivers as part of a Ramadan tradition. A speeding minibus hit him on the main road before fleeing.

Friends rushed Badr to a hospital in Qaha in an attempt to save his life, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The public prosecution has authorized his burial and ordered an investigation, including witness testimonies and efforts to locate and arrest the driver.

The incident has sparked an outpouring of sorrow, with many hailing the young man’s charitable act and calling for justice.

Egyptian authorities continue to search for the suspect as part of their ongoing investigation.
