Liverpool ready to deliver incredible moment unseen for 90 years

Liverpool host Southampton at Anfield on Saturday in the Premier League. The Reds are on the brink of a truly incredible record.

Liverpool are 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League and Saturday can see them take another giant step closer to the trophy. Arsenal are there waiting, of course, but the Reds have things firmly in their hands.

They're expected to win, naturally. Southampton have been the worst team in the top flight this season, picking up just nine points from their 27 games.

They rarely score, concede loads and have struggled against pretty much everyone. Liverpool, on the other hand, beat Paris Saint-Germain in midweek despite playing terribly.

A win for the Saints would be a genuine shock - one of the biggest we've seen in the Premier League.

Liverpool winning, though, would put them 16 points clear. Arsenal don't play until tomorrow and while they'd have two games in hand, that's a mountain to climb.

This isn't exactly an easy Liverpool team to catch, after all. Arne Slot has them grinding out results and blowing teams away - hence the 13-point lead.

It's all underpinned by dominant home form and that home form could see Liverpool equal an incredible record against the Saints.

Liverpool chase Sunderland

Liverpool have scored at least twice in their last 18 home games across all competitions. It's a truly ridiculous feat - no one, it seems, can keep them out.

No English team has bettered that streak since Sunderland in 1935. They went for 19 games, so Liverpool can equal them on Saturday.

Doing so would almost certainly deliver a win, too, given Southampton average 0.7 goals per game this season. You can expect Liverpool to really attack this one, then.

Though, there is a complication. Liverpool head into the fixture on the back of that intense PSG result and know they face an equally intense time on Tuesday in the return leg.

Southampton are sandwiched between the two and present a glorious opportunity to rotate the side a bit. That brings up some very interesting decisions from Slot.
