Russell Westbrook recently helped lead the Denver Nuggets to a 149-141 victory over the Phoenix Suns in one of the most thrilling regular season games of the year.
In the win over the Suns, Nuggets center Nikola Jokic made NBA history. The Denver star posted 31 points, 21 rebounds and 22 assists, the first-ever 30/20/20 game in league history.
Westbrook shared the historic announcement, posted by the Denver Nuggets' official social media account, while sending a message about Jokic.
"MVP," Westbrook said.
Jokic now holds the record for the most assists in a single game by a center, passing Wilt Chamberlain, who previously held the record with 21 assists.
So far this season, Jokic has averaged 28.8 points, 12.8 rebounds and 10.4 assists per game, holding a top-three ranking in each statistical category.
Jokic is no stranger to MVP discussions. He has won the award three times in his career, as well as a Finals MVP in 2023 when he led the Nuggets to the NBA championship during the 2022-23 season.
Westbrook has also spent some time in MVP discussions during his NBA career. He previously won the NBA MVP during the 2016-17 season.
The Nuggets guard also has a few other notable accomplishments in his NBA resume: two-time scoring champion, two-time All-Star Game MVP, three-time assist champion, nine-time All-Star and nine-time All-NBA.
