Argentine sports commentator opens up on Darwin Nunez position

Darwin Nunez’s future at Liverpool has been a major talking point this season.

The Uruguayan striker has struggled for consistent minutes, often finding himself behind Diogo Jota in the pecking order.

Even Luis Diaz, typically a winger, has been deployed in central roles ahead of him at times.

It has been a frustrating season for Nunez.

He has made 37 appearances in all competitions but started only seven times in the Premier League.

While he has shown flashes of brilliance, his finishing has let him down on key occasions.

He openly criticized Nunez, not just for the missed opportunity but for his overall work.

Amid all this, Argentine sports commentator Juan Manuel ‘Bambino’ Pons has shed light on Nunez’s situation.

He revealed that he has a close relationship with the striker and recently spoke with him about his current position at Liverpool.

“I was talking to Darwin,” Pons said to Carve Deporte.

“I’m not going to give away details, but [Jurgen] Klopp always put him in, and [Arne] Slot doesn’t.”

“He has no shortage of offers, he wants to play, and he’s not getting it.”

The frustration is clear.

Nunez joined Liverpool in 2022 for a fee that could rise to £85 million.

He was expected to be the club’s next big striker.

But with limited game time and questions over his performances, his future at Anfield remains uncertain.

Pons added that Nunez is still focused on Liverpool’s season but is eager for more minutes.

“He has three titles left to play for this year, maybe that will tip the balance, but he wants to have more minutes.”

Liverpool rejected offers for Nunez from Saudi clubs in January, but interest from the region is expected to return in the summer.

Whether the striker stays or leaves could depend on how the rest of the season unfolds.
