Liverpool have moved 13 points clear at the top of the league
Alexis Mac Allister says Liverpool are being driven on towards the title by the prospect of being able to celebrate with the club’s supporters.
The Reds solitary Premier League win concluded during the Covid-19 lockdown with their clinching moments taking place in empty stadiums. And for the players from that season who remain at Anfield now, the ability to jubilate with their supporters is a huge motivating factor.
Arne Slot ’s team can move another step closer to sealing top spot when they host bottom of the table Southampton at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

And speaking in the matchday programme, Mac Allister admitted: “Yes, that’s what’s been discussed here with one or two of the lads who have been here at the club for a few years now and who managed to win the title on that occasion.
“That will be the difference I think, between winning it now and what it was like in that season. Everyone says the same, that they weren’t able to celebrate the win in the way everyone would have wanted, as a result of the pandemic.”
That sentiment was echoed by Mohamed Salah earlier this week. The Egypt star’s future beyond this campaign remains uncertain but owing to the fan factor has has claimed domestic glory rather than another Champions League win is his top priority.
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.
Mohamed Salah is focused on winning the Premier League
“The greatest motivation is to win the Premier League, not even the Champions League because I always choose the Champions League,” Salah said.
“For seven years I always say Champions League, this is the first year I say the Premier League. I just want to win the Premier League with the city and the fans, and to experience that day and go on a parade in the city is going to be incredible.
“It's going to be unforgettable because I know how much it means to win the Premier League.”
