John Terry has shared his opinion on whether or not he likes the Club World Cup, as Chelsea will compete in the tournament this summer.
Chelsea are part of a 32-team tournament that will take place in the United States from 14 June to 15 July.
If the Blues do go all the way in the Conference League, their 2024/25 season won’t conclude until 28 May because the European final takes place in Poland on that date. It would leave Enzo Maresca’s side with a very quick turnaround before the Club World Cup begins.
It’s been claimed that Chelsea want new signings before the Club World Cup kicks off, but it sounds like they may be very tight for time.

John Terry likes the Club World Cup, explains the benefit for Chelsea
John Terry, the Chelsea legend, has shared his views on the Club World Cup competition.
During a conversation via journalist Ben Jacobs on X, the former Blues captain explained that the tournament is a great opportunity to go win a trophy and also give experience to the squad.
When discussing the Club World Cup, Terry said: “I like it. I think what Gianni [Infantino] is doing is incredible. I think what he’s trying to do is give people a real chance from across the world to go and compete against some of the top teams.
“Having a big squad is going to enable us (Chelsea) to take a big squad over there. So I understand there a lot of games, the season is long, but also for players it’s important to want and go win these trophies as well. For Chelsea Football Club, we have an opportunity to take some players to get a lot of experience, but also to go win the trophy. Hopefully we can do that.”

Chelsea qualified for the Club World Cup because of their triumph in winning the Champions League back in 2021.
This current group isn’t competing in Europe’s elite club competition this season, but it’s a reminder that it wasn’t long ago the club was at the very top.

Chelsea past winners of the Club World Cup before tournament change
Back in 2021, Chelsea did create a piece of history for themselves by winning the Club World Cup. The Blues beat Palmeiras 2-1 after extra time courtesy of goals from Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz.
When it comes to the upcoming 2025 tournament, it will be a lot more difficult to lift the trophy.
The club competition has been expanded from just seven teams to 32 teams, which begins with a group phase with eight groups of four.
Group D
Chelsea (England)
El Tunis (Tunisia)
Flamengo (Brazil)
Leon (Mexico)
Like Terry mentions, Chelsea’s large squad should work in their favour when competing in the Club World Cup this summer. It’s certainly not something that feels like a priority for supporters at this moment in time, but it could be quite entertaining once the tournament begins.
