Chelsea have reportedly stepped up their interest in Real Betis winger Jesus Rodriguez now that he is making himself noticed by scouts across Europe at the age of just 19. Rodriguez, famous for his youth strategy, could go out of the Blues in the summer window by the Blues, the team for their youth transfer policy.

Rodriguez has been in the form of his life in La Liga this season, so quick, so agile and so attacking, going by the book. He has already caught the Spanish football world’s attention after making 16 senior appearances for Real Betis. However, the biggest question still involves how Chelsea will get his signature before Liverpool or other top teams can do so.
Why Chelsea Want Jesus Rodriguez
It’s no mystery that Chelsea are keen to bring in Jesus Rodriguez. But the teenager has emerged as one of the breakout stars under Manuel Pellegrini after shifting from the right wing to the left when Antony joined from Manchester United. However, having made the switch, he remains at his peak and is shining, showing he is versatile and can adapt to Chelsea’s managers.
His efforts against Real Madrid going in Betis’ 2-1 triumph in their previous outing also helped continue his reputation. Rodriguez was given an assist and Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos advised fans to ‘protect the 36’ in reference to his shirt number, while praising the youngster for his performance.
Chelsea’s current method of spending money on young players for the future would make sense to add Rodriguez to their ranks.
The £42m Price Tag: Bargain or Gamble?
However, Chelsea have a choice to make with a release clause of £42m. Is Rodriguez worth that investment or is he another hot prospect who may disappoint in the Premier League due to an inability to adjust?
Rodriguez looks to have the right tools to try and thrive in English football, taking into account his technical skills, work ethic and playing experience in Spain’s U19 European Championship-winning squad. Nevertheless, it is a trend in Chelsea history when it comes to young signings—ask fans about the Chelsea infamous ‘loan army.’
If Chelsea sign Rodriguez, they will need to find game time for him and not another promising talent vanished into Venice.
