Harvey Barnes is expected to play more frequently for Newcastle United in the coming weeks.
The winger has struggled to cement his place in Eddie Howe’s starting XI since joining in 2023, but recent events mean he is almost guaranteed more game time.
Anthony Gordon was shown a straight red card in the Magpies defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup, ruling him out of the next three games including the Carabao Cup final later this month.
His suspension means that Harvey Barnes will be in contention to start in the cup final, but could still make way for the likes of Joelinton who has experience playing as a left-winger.
So far this season, the 27-year-old has played 28 games in all competitions, scoring five goals. There has been speculation over the winger’s future, with reports suggesting Barnes could leave Newcastle in the summer.
The speculation means that these upcoming games are incredibly important for Barnes’ future, they could be the difference maker over whether he stays at Newcastle past this season.
While there is talk of a possible exit for Barnes, he took the time for some more light-hearted chat with two YouTubers, where he made a surprise claim about one of his Newcastle teammates.

The most skilful Newcastle United player revealed
Barnes isn’t known for being a particularly skilful player himself, but he knows how to beat a man and find the back of the net. The England international is sure to have seen some brilliant things in training during his 18 months at the club.

He joined just as Allan Saint-Maximin was leaving the club, perhaps he took part in one or two training sessions with him but he won’t have seen exactly how tricky a player he was.
In a video with YouTube duo AngryGinge and Danny Aarons, Barnes asked the pair questions like ‘Who has the best celebration’. He also asked ‘Who is the most skillful’.
Both Ginge and Aarons said that Gordon was the most skilful player, but Barnes actually claimed it was star striker Alexander Isak.
“No, I would actually say Isak for actual skills. Anthony is (skilful) as well but I would say (Isak).”
The Swede isn’t particularly known for being a skilful player, despite his fantastic dribbling ability. Newcastle fans see Isak as a player with a brilliant eye for goal and his link-up play during counterattacks.
Harvey Barnes jokes about Lewis Hall
Lewis Hall has been sensational for Newcastle this season, the left-back has made that position his own after initially struggling in his loan spell with the Magpies last season.
Sadly Hall will miss the Carabao Cup final after picking up an ankle injury which flared up in the Premier League loss to Liverpool in March. Hall is having surgery on his ankle which will keep him out until the end of the season. Sven Botman joins Hall on the operating table, with the Dutchman expected to be out for eight weeks with a knee problem.
Barnes was asked who had the best music taste at the club, Ginge answered that Hall does to which Barnes shook his head.
“No one actually knows what he listens to. He has these huge Beats headphones on the bus just glued to his head. Nobody knows, he’s just in the zone.
“He’s interesting, I always wonder ‘what is Lewis Hall listening to?’ and I still don’t know.
“I would say Anthony Gordon (has the best music taste), Hall has the worst.”
