Manchester United will hope to return to winning ways when they face old rivals Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils have experienced a dismal season so far and their form hasn’t improved much since there arrival of head coach Ruben Amorim late last year.
The Portuguese has overseen just five wins from 16 Premier League games in charge of United, and his side therefore sit 14th in the top flight table and are therefore set to miss out on qualification for European football next term.
Away from the action, it appears that the Manchester giants are set to be handed another huge blow.
According to The Guardian, midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is set to reject a new contract with the club and is instead keen to move abroad.
The 19-year-old is a product of United’s youth academy and has made 60 appearances for the club since breaking into the senior setup.
His impressive form during his breakthrough season last term also earned him a place in the England senior squad, and he is now expected to be a regular for the Three Lions moving forward.
Mainoo is set to reject a new contract offer from Manchester United
Mainoo’s current contract wit his boyhood club is set to expire in 2027 and, while the club are keen to agree an extension, the report claims that the player himself is set to snub a new deal.
It is also claimed that United are open to the idea of selling the teenager, despite his importance to Amorim’s side, for a fee in excess of £70 million as those in charge of the club look to appease their financial woes.
The report also suggests that, while Premier League rivals Chelsea have shown interest in the midfielder, Mainoo isn’t currently considering a move to another English side.
The player currently earns around £20,000-per-week, the report claims, and United are believed to optimistic that he could still agree to commit his long-term future to the club.
