A timely return to first team action with summer decision looming

West Ham’s last couple of wins have certainly eased any lingering fear that the club was going to be dragged into a relegation battle. Thirty points with eleven games to go should see even West Ham manage to gather the required half a dozen points to stay safe: Graham Potter instead can use the last eleven games as a testing ground to work out who stays and who goes in 2025/6, in what will be his first full season at the Hammers’ helm.

Finally returning to fitness after what seems like forever, Niclas Fullkrug can look forward to those last eleven games knowing that the attacking duties can be shared with Evan Ferguson, therefore easing himself back into action to avoid what would be a disastrous recurrence of either his hamstring or calf injuries.

In the latest Hammers’ training’ video, both Ferguson and Fullkrug are shown fit, running and raring to go. West Ham’s German front man has woeful Premier League stats this year with nine games in total – that many, surprisingly, but that includes just two starting appearances – two goals and one assist to show for the Hammers twenty six-odd million pound outlay.

Fullkrug fit again

Fit again Fullkrug – but will he stay or will he leave?

Quite possibly Fullkrug will make a return on Monday night against Newcastle-It will seem an almost dramatic start for what will feel like a new addition to Potter’s options.

A few minutes’ runout at the end of the Magpies’ fixture will be easing the 32 year old back in gently, but will start to give Graham Potter the opportunity to decide for himself whether Fullkrug is a ‘keeper’ in the summer. The player himself has remained pretty tight lipped about his West Ham future despite a lot of rumour that he is anxious to leave and ‘didn’t settle’ at West Ham.

Either way, it will be a welcome return for the attacker – either to boost his resale value or bolster his claim on a place in next season’s squad.
