This week, as Draymond Green's Golden State Warriors continued their surge in the standings following the Jimmy Butler trade, Green stole some of the team's thunder because of a comment he made during his podcast, "The Draymond Green Show."
Most have heard it by now, but during the show, Green and co-host Baron Davis were discussing the win by the Warriors at Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks played without Karl-Anthony Towns, who had butted heads with Butler while the two were teammates in Minnesota.
"Some would say he didn't play because Jimmy was in the building… they said KAT ain't play because Jimmy came to town," Green said on his podcast.
That, it turned out, was not true. Towns missed the game to attend the funeral of a family friend. When Green was informed of that, he did not apologize and instead said that his comments on Towns were based on, "What I heard."
"That's unfortunate, I'm sorry to hear that. That sucks*,"Green said.* "But my comments that I made were, you know, 'People, what I heard was this.' That's what I heard. So I do send my well wishes to him and his family."
He then insisted that his podcast "would go on." The backlash for all of this has been swift, even from prominent media members.
This is just a reckless and inappropriate conversation from Draymond and Baron Davis. Wouldn't have been hard to do a little research or make a phone call before posting pic.twitter.com/GWyxXVYRQO

Draymond Green comes off as heartless a-hole for the way he handled the Karl-Anthony Towns situation. @InfSportsNetpic.twitter.com/qHAp28a9nr

Draymond Green talked about needing mental help last season for his outrageously dirty antics on the court, then spreads a senseless lie about Karl Anthony-Towns who missed a game for personal issues after a friend died of cancer.
An utter CLOWN

But there is also a move on to keep Green off the airwaves as the 2024-25 season winds down. The NBA has love-hate relationship with Green, punishing him frequently for his on-court dirty play but hopeful that he can take the mantle as the league's next loveable studio analyst.
TNT has done the same, though they won't have the NBA much longer. Still, as Matt Yoder of Awful Announcing wrote this week, it would be advisable for TNT to keep Green--a frequent guest analyst for the network--off its broadcasts.
"It's one thing to have bold opinions and big takes ..." Yoder wrote. "It's another to carelessly and thoughtlessly spread false rumors about fellow NBA stars. Is that the kind of person and presence that TNT or any other network that covers the NBA really wants on their airwaves?"
As Tim Garrison of the Canis Hoopus blog added, "The NBA and Adam Silver is indeed tone deaf if they continue to promote Draymond Green as a personality and analyst."
The NBA and Adam Silver is indeed tone deaf if they continue to promote Draymond Green as a personality and analyst.
You can't have someone who literally hates players and criticizes everything about the game, then wonder why you have lower ratings.
Hire actual analysts that…

Green continues to tout his platform as a podcaster and analyst. But the backlash on his KAT comments might catch up to him this time.
