Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham star Ben Davies has a chance to feature against Bournemouth on Sunday
Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to get back to winning ways against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.
Spurs were beaten 1-0 by AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the Europa League last-16 tie in the Netherlands on Thursday evening. Despite having over a week to train, rest and recuperate, coupled with the return of some key players from injuries, Ange Postecoglou’s side produced a flat performance in the defeat to AZ Alkmaar.
In the last couple of weeks, the North London have been handed multiple boosts on the injury front. Last month was particularly significant as Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Wilson Odobert, and Brennan Johnson all returned to full fitness. Thursday night’s clash against AZ Alkmaar saw further positive developments, with Dominic Solanke, Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero being named in the travelling squad.
While first-choice centre-back pairing Romero and Van de Ven returned to the squad after months on the sidelines, Ben Davies still remained absent. The experienced Welshman has not featured for Tottenham since the away win over Brentford at the start of February.
Ben Davies
Ben Davies has missed the last four games due to injury
There had been hope that he would be fit to travel with the squad to AZ Alkmaar. However, that was not the case, and now Ange Postecoglou has delivered the latest update on the defender’s situation.
When asked if Ben Davies would be fit for Sunday’s game against Bournemouth, the Tottenham gaffer told Football London:
“We’re not really sure. He’s training at the moment so we will see how he feels. He’s definitely progressed and he feels good so let’s see how he goes in the next 24-48 hours. He’s a chance but we’ll see how he goes.”
Davies has performed well when called upon by Postecoglou this season. The veteran Welshman was at one point deputising for the injured duo Romero and Van de Ven, partnering either Archie Gray or Radu Dragusin in central defence. He has made 18 appearances across all competitions this season to date.
Big Ange has confirmed that Ben Davies has returned to training and could be fit to face Bournemouth
The 31-year-old has missed our last four games but Big Ange confirmed on Friday morning that he is progressing well and there is a chance he makes the squad against Bournemouth. It will be a big boost if the Neath-born star returns for Sunday’s fixture, especially with Van de Ven and Romero not seeing any action in the defeat to AZ Alkmaar.

Davies coming back would add much-needed depth to Spurs’ defensive unit that had been stretched thin for many months. Even if a brief runout off the bench on Sunday would be a positive development, thereby, improving the versatile defender’s chances of being an option for our season’s biggest game next week at home.
