Governor declares 2nd Saturday in March “Faturday” to honor Detroit superfan

This week, the Detroit sports world lost Andy Isaac, a local superfan who had gained notoriety chronicling his love of food, obsession over sports, and hate for the [Chicago Bears](https://www.windycitygridiron.com/) via his popular Twitter account @WorldOfIsaac. His battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma lasted over two decades, but on Thursday he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones.

Isaac meant a lot to sports fans, whether you knew him personally or not. That much was obvious by the outpouring of love this week and the coverage on both local and national television:

Now Michiganders will have a chance to celebrate Isaac’s life annually. Governor Gretchen Whitmer declared on Saturday that the second Saturday of March will now officially be “Faturday” in Michigan, named after Isaac’s running gag of finding the best food in the state.

“Michigan has the best, most passionate sports fans in the country, and nobody embodied what we’re all about better than Andy Isaac,” Governor Whitmer said in a statement. “With his humor, dedication, and love for our teams, Andy helped make cheering on Detroit sports a heck of a lot more fun. He brought joy into people’s lives, always asking, ‘Tell me something good that happened to you recently.’ Today, we remember Andy and do something good for the state of Michigan by officially proclaiming Saturday, March 8 as Faturday. I lost my own mom to cancer, and i know that so many Michiganders have been through the same. As Isaac would say, ‘FTB!’”

So if you’re reading this the day it was announced—March 8, 2025—happy Faturday to you!
