Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim believes he will not be afforded the same patience and time to rebuild the club as Mikel Arteta has enjoyed at Arsenal.
Ahead of their Premier League showdown at Old Trafford on Sunday, the two teams find themselves in contrasting positions. Arsenal sit second in the table, fresh off a 7-1 Champions League thrashing of PSV, while United languish in 14th place, having just scraped a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad in the Europa League.
Amorim, who took over at United in November, compared his situation to Arteta’s early days at Arsenal. The Spaniard won the FA Cup in 2020, but by December of that year, he was under serious pressure after a seven-game winless run that saw Arsenal flirt with the relegation zone.

Despite those struggles, Arteta was given time to turn things around, and since then, he has transformed Arsenal into title contenders and Champions League regulars.
However, Amorim does not expect the same level of patience at Old Trafford.
Mikel Arteta begun his tenure at Arsenal in December 2020. He won the 4th most amount of points in the league from that point on.
He finished 8th, five places higher than when he joined.
He spent £0 in his first transfer window.

“I don’t feel that. I will not have the time Arteta had – I feel that. It’s a different club. So we just need to survive with the players on Sunday and me, during these games.”
“The way Arteta dealt with that is an inspiration for everybody, but I will not have the time like Arteta had.”

Amorim has endured a difficult start at United, with his side already out of both domestic cups and struggling to even secure a top-half finish in the league. The Europa League remains their best chance at silverware, but they face a crucial second leg against Real Sociedad next week, with a quarter-final spot on the line.
United’s problems have been compounded by injuries to key players, including Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte. While both are nearing a return, Ruben Amorim remains cautious about their availability for Sunday’s clash.
“I don’t know – Maguire we have to be careful. We need to survive Sunday – the team was so tired in the last 20 minutes.”
“We have to prepare for Sunday and think about this important game for our season on Thursday.”
