Saints restructure contract of center Erik McCoy

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - It’s March, which means for the New Orleans Saints, time to restructure contracts to get under the salary cap.

First up, center Erik McCoy. The restructuring of McCoy’s contract creates $7 million in salary cap space. McCoy signed a 5-year, $60 million contract with the Saints in the fall of 2022.

The 2025 salary cap rose to $279.2 million due in large part to a new TV deal for the league. According to Over The Cap, the Saints are $39.5 million over the cap.

McCoy was taken in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. McCoy played in only seven games last season.

McCoy suffered a groin injury in Week 3 against the Eagles, missing seven games. He returned in Week 11 against the Browns, but suffered another groin injury.
