Xavier Worthy, former Texas receiver, reportedly arrested for assault

Skip to content Xavier Worthy was arrested in Williamson Couty, Texas, on Friday night, according to a report from FOX 26’s Will Kunkel.

The Kansas City Chiefs receiver is being charged with assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation, according to the report. In Texas, the charge is a third-degree felony and can carry a prison sentence of 2 to 10 years with a fine of up to $10,000.

Worthy, 21, just wrapped his rookie season with the Chiefs. The former Texas wideout was selected with the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

“We are aware and gathering information,” the Chiefs said in a statement to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Beyond the criminal justice system, Worthy could face additional punishment from the NFL for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy.

The offseason arrest is the second in as many years for a Chiefs wide receiver. Former SMU wideout Rashee Rice was arrested last April for his involvement in a multi-car crash after Rice was said to be speeding at upwards of 119 miles per hour. He is currently facing at least 2 civil lawsuits and multiple criminal charges stemming from the incident, per NBC DFW, with a trial date still to be set. The NFL has not handed down a punishment for Rice yet as it lets the legal process unfold.

Worthy caught 59 passes for 638 yards and 6 touchdowns last season.
