With Callum Wilson’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, and Alexander Isak desperately needing a back up option to balance his minutes, Newcastle will surely enter the striker market this summer.
Several names have been linked in recent weeks, with Liam Delap, Benjamin Sesko and Jonathan David all mentioned in Craig Hope’s latest exclusive for The Mail on Thursday night, although they were mentioned as a potential contingency plan should Isak depart.
Another name has also cropped up, with a former Premier League flop now impressing in Serie A now linked with a potential move to St James’ Park via the Italian press.
According to Italian outlet [Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.it/2025/03/06/pagano-la-clausola-kean-torna-a-vestirsi-di-bianconero/), Newcastle ‘very much like’ Fiorentina striker Moise Keen and have entered the race to bring the back to the Premier League.
The Italian is enjoying an excellent season at Fiorentina and currently has a €52m (£43m) release clause inserted in his contract after netting 19 goals in 31 appearances this season.
However, Eddie Howe’s side aren’t the only English side interested in the former Everton striker’s signature.
The same report states that both Arsenal and Tottenham have expressed their desire to sign Kean, who despite a disappointing stint in Merseyside, could be open to a move away from his native country.
Despite his strong form for Fiorentina, Kean had a torrid time in England when he played for Everton.
With just two goals scored in 32 appearances, the striker joined a long list of Italians who failed to impress abroad but returned to his native country and excelled once again.
On a potential return to England, Calciomercato state: ‘Kean didn’t have a great experience in England with Everton and it remains to be seen if that will deter him from returning to the country, or if it will motivate him to prove doubters wrong.’
If he was available for a figure below his £43m release clause and really has turned the corner after finding form at Fiorentina, he may be considered a good Callum Wilson replacement.
However, I don’t believe for a second that we’d gamble on Kean as a replacement for Alexander Isak, who continues to be touted with a move away from the North East despite Newcastle having every intention to extend his stay.
