Hundreds of runners race through Downtown Atlanta for Hawks Fast Break 5K

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — More than 1,400 runners raced through Downtown Atlanta for the Atlanta Hawks Fast Break 5K on Saturday morning.

The ninth edition of this run — which was organized by the Atlanta Track Club and presented by Sharecare — continues to grow each year.

Joe Abercrombie, the Hawks’ senior vice president of live experience and production, said his favorite part is watching people of all ages and ethnicities participate in the race.

“This showcases what Atlanta is as a diverse city,” he said. “It’s a great sight to see.”

The race’s start and finish lines were set up on a road directly behind State Farm Arena and between the Georgia World Congress Center. Participants enjoyed spring-like temperatures throughout much of the morning.

Designed as a fun run, the annual event promotes an active and healthy lifestyle.

Breonna Ryle woke up bright and early on Saturday to run this race for the second straight year.

“I love being a part of this type of environment because I get to meet so many people,” she said. “I come out here to race by myself and I always leave with a friend.”

As an added bonus, all racers received a ticket voucher to an Atlanta Hawks game of their choosing.

Abercrombie highlighted the event’s impact on connecting his team with the community.

“These runners may not be traditional NBA fans,” he explained. “This is a way to get them in our doors, to see our product and see our Hawks play.”

Fans can look forward to a big basketball night on Atlanta News First. [Tonight at 7:30 p.m.](https://www.atlantanewsfirst.com/2025/03/08/atlanta-hawks-square-off-against-indiana-pacers-peachtreetv/) we’ll be broadcasting the Atlanta Hawk’s home game against the Indiana Pacers.
