‘His passion and fight’: Wayne Rooney names his favourite ever Everton player

Wayne Rooney only had eyes for one when it came to his Everton hero, and he actually ended up playing with him.

Rooney has been having a tour of Everton’s new home, and the former Toffees player seems impressed with Bramley Moore-Dock.

The supposed Everton legend could be involved with the club in some capacity in years to come, as Rooney joked about replacing David Moyes.

That’s certainly a long-term ambition, as Moyes looks very comfortable in his seat.

Rooney might use the inspiration of his favourite Everton player to reach this goal, as his Toffees hero has been named.

Wayne Rooney names Duncan Ferguson his favourite Everton player

Rooney and Duncan Ferguson are certainly in the category of great players to star for Everton.

Ferguson wants the Everton job like Rooney, as despite being former teammates, they’ll be competition for the privilege of managing the Toffees.

It was revealed that Thomas Gravesen was Rooney’s best at Everton, but no one comes close to Ferguson in Rooney’s book.

Speaking to Everton’s club media, Rooney named what he loved watching about Ferguson, which certainly reflects Rooney himself as a player.

“Best player growing up… my favourite one was Duncan Ferguson. His passion and fight, I used to love coming and watching him play, and then I was lucky enough to play with him.”

Rooney named his best goal at Goodison Park for Everton

The England legend could’ve gone on to a greater legacy at Everton, but instead opted for a move to Manchester.

No doubt a young Rooney would’ve loved to emulate Ferguson at the Merseyside club, but it might have been enough for him just to play with him.

Despite Jamie Carragher saying Rooney isn’t an Everton legend, many Evertonians might disagree, but it doesn’t seem like he’s close to Ferguson.

Nevertheless, after breaking onto the scene at 16, Rooney scored some great goals at Everton, but speaking in the same interview, one is clearly the best.

“Best goal I scored at Goodison Park was my first Premier League goal against Arsenal,” Rooney said.

It could’ve been so much more for Rooney at Everton, but his love for the club is stronger than ever.
